Opportunity: Trustees and Chair of the Board

Diverse City are looking for new Trustees and Chair of the Board.

Trustees play a central role for us, making important decisions about the management of our charity.  Diverse City are seeking candidates who are committed to our core mission – achieving equity in the arts. We’re looking for people to work with us on making Diverse City the best it can possibly be.

We’re looking for trustees who have:

  •  a wholehearted commitment to our values and mission
  • a team-focused approach to problem solving and management
  • a commitment to fairness and achieving equality, diversity and inclusion
  • the ability to listen to and respect the opinions of others
  • the ability to think independently, strategically and creatively
  • a willingness to learn about the role and responsibilities of a trustee

We’re most interested in these skills:

  • Experience working with the Arts Council as a National Portfolio Organisation
  • Fundraising
  • Finance
  • Digital Communications

What will I need to do?

As a Trustee you will be required to:
  • attend four board meetings per year (remote)
  • attend any additional ad hoc meetings deemed necessary by the board (usually 2-3 per year)
  • attend one annual trustee and staff away day (in person)
  • attend performances and events where possible (1-2 per year)
As Chair of the Board you will be required to:
  • lead the board, set its agenda, ensure legal and financial governance duties are met effectively
  • keep in touch with the organisation and its activities
  • convene and lead board meetings and attend
  • make decisions on matters that cannot be progressed without board authorisation, but cannot wait until the next board meeting.
  • ensure the effectiveness of individual trustees and the Board as a whole.
  • support the Executive in fundraising
  • develop the Charity’s vision and strategy and monitor its implementation
  • line manage the Executive team, and work closely with them
